For centuries, society has simultaneously disregarded the lived experience of Black Women while holding Black Women to unfair expectations. This is evident today in what researchers refer to as the “Strong Black Woman” schema, a internalized narrative that often gets in the way of fundamental, self-preserving measures such as taking time off to address health concerns, setting healthy boundaries, and experiencing joy, peace, or abundance without guilt.
